President's Pen

October has been an exciting month! On behalf of the CRS PTA Executive Board I would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the volunteers making things happen (too numerous to call out by name!). We couldn't have the amazing programs we do without your support.

In case you missed it we kicked off the month with our live-streaming PTA meeting, hosted a Parent Networking event with Rachel Bailey to help parents teach kids how to cope with stress, enjoyed a fun-filled evening in the CRS backyard for Movie Night, made 1713 sandwiches for Martha's Table, subsidized field trips, and kicked off our enriching After School Activities Program (ASA). One of the many benefits of our partnership with Enrichment Matters for ASA is providing scholarships for families in need of assistance. Students and faculty enjoyed a high energy performance of Uno Dos, Tres con Andres singing in Spanish and English and dancing as they toured Latin America - organized by our Integrated Arts Committee. In addition to all that, our Science Olympiad A team came away winners from the local competition with three First Place medals and 12 additional medals across 14 events! It takes a tremendous amount of volunteers to do all this - parents, grandparents, siblings, and teachers, we thank you! Later this week, 2nd Grade families will host a greatly anticipated lunch for all of our dedicated CRS staff. Student Council Association elections were held in late September, and we congratulate all the newly elected officers and representatives! The CRS PTA proudly sponsors all of these important programs.

We are getting close to our Bobcat Fund annual fundraising goal of $48,000 - we still need to raise another $2,000 to reach our goal. The corporate matching program has been gaining momentum and we have received ~$10,600 via matching donations. The Bobcat Fund is the primary fundraiser to cover our annual operating budgeting and fund PTA programs. The CRS PTA will spend ~$135 per student this year and invest in professional development for our teachers - we are investing over $100K in student programs and educational support. For all who have already contributed, we thank you! If you have not already contributed, please consider helping us get to our goal and talk to other members of the CRS community about contributing as well. If you would like more information about the Bobcat Fund, email us at [email protected].

Thank you to all of the many parents who have volunteered to be Room Parents this year. Your efforts are truly appreciated by all of the teachers and the entire community and we are grateful for your help in organizing volunteers for the many activities and classroom assistance. We are looking forward to all the Halloween celebrations next week! Don't miss the festive annual Halloween Parade and concert on the 31st at CRS.

Lots of amazing work is happening at the Fairfax County PTA and NOVA District PTA on behalf of FCPS. Your annual PTA dues also cover membership in both those PTAs as well as the National PTA. Tune in to our next PTA meeting for Advocacy updates and lots of other updates on November 14 at 8:45 a.m. Please mark your calendars for two upcoming EVENING meetings we will be hosting this year on December 12 and February 13 - both begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be preceded by the Principal's Pizza. Hope to see you there!

Lastly, don't forget to come out and support our annual CRS Book Fair from November 7 through 13th, which raises money for the library and school reading programs. Our annual shopping event and SCA Pizza sale will be on the evening of November 8, from 5-8 p.m.

Kristi West, CRS PTA President

Reflections

Last chance for students to submit their amazing original artwork for the National PTA's Reflections contest - all entries are due this Friday, 10/26. Don't forget to include the entry form! Entries can be dropped off in the school's front office through Friday.

The Book Fair is coming...which means we need you! Last year we had over 50 fabulous parent volunteers who helped with set-up, browsing and buying days to help the kids, buying night, and take-down. If you have a few hours to spare, the Book Fair team would love to have your help! Class schedules will be posted within the next couple days. Learn more and sign-up.
