Holiday Toy Drive

Monday, December 3, kicks off our holiday gift drive for Dogwood Elementary, our Title 1 buddy school in Reston, VA. Dogwood. More than 80% of the 700 students at Dogwood qualify for the National Student Lunch Program, which is for families with incomes that are 130% or more below the poverty line (family income $20,000 or less). For the past 16 years, the CRS community has held a toy drive for Dogwood students. Each year nearly 400 students receive a gift from the holiday shop hosted by the Dogwood parent liaisons.

Collection bins will be placed in the front hall, MODs, and near the PTA room. Check our website for more information on the gift drive, as well as shopping guidelines and suggestions.

We also need help to collect and pack the gifts each morning (just a 15 minute or less commitment!) and to deliver the gifts to Dogwood on 12/7. Learn more and sign up on our SignUpGenius form.

Secret Snowman

It's that time of year - our Secret Snowman is back! The Staff Appreciation Committee is collecting donations for Secret Snowman and will provide each and every member of the amazing Churchill Road staff with a holiday gift on behalf of CRS families. We also need help from students to make cards, plus parent volunteers to help deliver gifts (students are welcome to help if accompanying a parent volunteer). Contributions are due 12/4.

Parent Education - Homework Battles

The PTA Parent Education Committee has invited the parenting and education experts at a local organization, The StudyPro, to share their proven and straightforward techniques for building a growth mindset and executive function (EF) skills. These skills help your child overcome their struggles with homework, and prepare them for middle school, high school and beyond. Information will include specific strategies you can use to bolster EF skills, help your child push through their frustration, and encourage independence.

Friday, November 30 at 8:45 a.m. in the CRS Exploratory Arts Room
