President's Pen

Hello Bobcat Families! Hope everyone is settling in to the new school year. Our annual CRS PTA Membership drive is going on in full force and the annual arm chair fundraiser, the Bobcat Fund is over 70% to our goal. Thank you to all the members who have joined and donated already. We are tracking those employer corporate matching donations that you have applied for!

A PTA is only as successful as its membership base. To achieve greatness, our PTA needs a community of diverse supporters of our children’s education and social and emotional growth. To best represent the needs of all children in a unified voice, we need as many parents, teachers, grandparents, staff, and community members as possible. So far 362 families and 44 staff members have joined the CRS PTA this year - are these voices enough to represent our 850 students and staff members?

Joining the PTA does not mean you must volunteer, and it does not mean you have to come to PTA meetings - though all are invited and you can participate via Facebook Live. Instead, joining the PTA shows that you have a commitment to the success of your child and our staff. Many dedicated volunteers are working hard on behalf of every student and staff member and countless hours go into advocating on your behalf. Please help spread the word and encourage others to join our PTA!

This year, CRS PTA is committed to demonstrating the value we provide to our students and community. We are working on Community and Cultural Outreach as well as embracing the diversity of the over 37 countries represented at CRS. We have applied for the 2019-2021 School of Excellence Award and will be conducting a survey over the next month to solicit your input on how we are doing and where we can improve. We know that the more members we have, the stronger our voice is and the more good we can accomplish. We want every family and staff member to be part of all the positive changes and growth coming our way.

New Year. New Goals.

Take Our Survey!

We want YOUR feedback - our goal is to identify opportunities to improve our family - school partnership. The CRS PTA Board will determine our focus area for this year in October, based upon the survey results (all responses are anonymous). We'll ask for your feedback again in May to evaluate our progress! This survey is part of the National PTA's School of Excellence program. Survey is open until 10/1.

ASA

Shop & Support CRS

Do you know all the ways you can help raise money for CRS with your everyday shopping? Let your shopping do all the work!

  1. Box Tops: Collect and turn in Box Tops at school from hundreds of products at your grocery store.
  2. Giant and Harris Teeter: Register your grocery cards (1x for Giant, annually for Harris Teeter) - free for you, with money directly to CRS.
  3. Amazon: Shop through AmazonSmile (and it works with Prime!) and 0.5% of every purchase raises funds for the CRS PTA. (Note: AmazonSmile is not available via app or Alexa.)
  4. eScrip Mall: Hundreds of popular merchants participate in this online shopping program that will donate to Churchill Road.
  5. Shutterfly & Tiny Prints: Shop through our storefront and 13% of every purchase raises funds for the CRS PTA.

Community Meeting: McLean Business Center

There will be an open house on future plans for the McLean CBC (aka downtown McLean) on Thursday, September 27, at 7 p.m. at McLean High School (cafeteria). We have an opportunity to make sure the needs of families with school-aged children are included in the final vision. Come review the plans and provide feedback. For more information, visit the project website.
